Ushers assist with various functions during the celebration of the Mass. Their primary functions include greeting people as they arrive and identifying those individuals who cannot come forward and will need Holy Communion brought to them in their seat. During the busiest times they ensure everyone can find a place to sit. They limit the noise to the rear of the church by keeping the doors closed during service. They are responsible for picking up the Collection, and designate individuals to bring the gifts of bread and wine forward at the Offering. After Mass they distribute the bulletins, and also assist in the event of an emergency. Special training is required.
